Pune: With a view to selecting Guhini village in Bhor taluka as the first ‘Madh (Honey) village’ of the district, the Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board inspected the locality and reviewed the geographical situation.

As per further information, according to the concept of Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board Chairman Ravindra Sathe, there are a total of 10 honey villages in the state. 

An awareness camp was organized under the Madhkendra Yojana to select Guhini village in Bhor taluka to implement the honey village concept in Maharashtra recently. Director of Mahabaleshwar Honey Directorate DR Patil, District Village Industry Officer SR Ramesh Ambekar, manager of Torna Rajgad Campus Samajonnati Nyas, a social organization in Velhe, Kharat, village officials, villagers and beekeepers were present.

The director of Mahabaleshwar Honey Directorate DR Patil gave information about the honey center scheme and implementation of the honey village concept. District Village Industry Officer  Kharat gave information on the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, Chief Minister’s Employment Generation Program, Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Skill Development Scheme, Madh Kendra Scheme, and Honey Village. After the program, Director Patil planted Jambhul in the forest area.

It is worthy to note that Guhini village is situated in the corner of Torna, Rajgad, Madhe Ghat area which was sanctified by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is a small village close to nature behind Bhatghar Dam. Plants like Jambhul, Mango, Kaarvi, Karwar, Arjun, Kaandalvan and Aakhra are available in large quantities and around 15 beekeepers of the village collect Agya, Saateri, Phulori ripe honey traditionally. The prices of different types of honey are between 800 to 1000 rupees per kg.
