Pune’s markets have started receiving Hapus (Alphonso) mangoes earlier than usual this year. The first arrivals are mostly from Sindhudurg’s Devgad taluka, with some from Ratnagiri. Traders at Pune’s Gultekdi Market Yard said 30 to 40 boxes, each containing 4-5 dozen mangoes, are arriving daily. The supply is expected to rise in the next two weeks.

Typically, Alphonso mangoes reach Pune markets by mid-March. However, this year’s early harvest has led to slightly varied sizes, but traders assure that quality is unaffected.

According to the Indian Express, these prices are high due to the early arrival. Currently, a box costs between ₹5,000 and ₹20,000, depending on quality and size.

Weather conditions have played a key role in this early arrival. The region has experienced consistently high temperatures. Orchards facing water stress might see fruit dropping early. However, good rainfall in the growing areas has raised hopes for a strong harvest.

Meanwhile, Karnataka’s mango season is off to a slow start. Flowering was delayed in some orchards, leading to late fruit formation. This could impact the availability of mangoes from the state in the coming weeks.

With mango supplies set to increase soon, consumers can expect better availability in the market.
