Thandalam, Tamil Nadu: A severe accident occurred early this morning on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway near Thandalam, close to Sriperumbudur, when a private company bus collided with a speeding lorry. The collision, which took place as the bus attempted a U-turn at a traffic signal, left over ten people injured, several critically.
Eyewitnesses and video footage from the scene reveal a terrifying sequence of events. After the collision, the impact dragged the bus along the road, eventually causing both vehicles to crash into an electricity pole. The bus overturned, trapping passengers inside and causing chaos.
In addition to the injured passengers, two pedestrians were tragically crushed beneath the overturned bus. Emergency services arrived swiftly at the scene and rushed the injured individuals including both, bus passengers and pedestrians to nearby hospitals for immediate medical treatment. Authorities report that at least eight individuals sustained serious injuries, with some in critical condition.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety and traffic management on this busy stretch of highway, as investigations continue into the cause of the accident.
