Heartbreak in Pune: Mother Ends Life After Killing Ailing Two-Year-Old Daughter
A devastating incident has unfolded in the Warje Malwadi area, where a 28-year-old mother reportedly took her own life after killing her chronically ill two-year-old daughter. The tragedy occurred in their rented residence at Gokulnagar Pathar, leaving the local community in a state of shock as the details of the family’s internal struggle with medical hardship began to emerge.
The family, originally from the Beed district, had relocated to Pune nearly five years ago to seek better work opportunities. Adinath Devadkar, who works as an electrician, returned home around 1:30 PM on Friday to a sight no father should ever witness. Upon entering the house, he discovered his daughter, Sharvi, lying still in her cradle with her hands and legs bound by adhesive tape. Nearby, his wife, Chhaya, was found hanging. Despite his frantic efforts to get them medical help, doctors declared both the mother and child dead upon their arrival at the hospital.
The underlying cause of this tragedy appears to be the immense psychological toll of the child’s health. Little Sharvi had been battling significant medical issues since birth, specifically a condition that made her bones incredibly fragile. Senior Inspector Vishvajeet Kaingade commented on the situation, noting that “the child was quite weak and needed regular medical care. The mother was under constant pressure due to the child’s worsening health and uncertain future.” This prolonged illness reportedly led Chhaya into a state of severe depression.
Police investigators believe the incident took place between Friday morning and the late afternoon. While no suicide note was recovered from the home, a post-mortem examination confirmed that the toddler had been strangled.
Consequently, the Warje Police have officially registered a murder case against Chhaya posthumously. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sheetal Janve and her team conducted a preliminary inspection of the site and are currently recording statements from neighbors and relatives to clarify the timeline of events.
This loss of life echoes another recent tragedy in Telangana, where a 29-year-old woman named Vasantha ended her life in Hyderabad. Having lost her husband years prior, Vasantha had been struggling to support her two sons as a daily wage laborer. On a Friday evening, she brought her children to the Hussain Sagar lake, gave them a phone to keep them occupied, and then jumped into the water.
