ZTCC Pune Records Landmark Achievement In Organ Donation And Transplantation In 2025
Pune, January 5, 2025: The Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Pune, has recorded a remarkable achievement in the field of organ donation and transplantation in 2025, emerging as the leading centre in Maharashtra for organ donations. According to official data, organs from 79 brain-dead donors were successfully transplanted into 207 needy patients, giving a new lease of life to hundreds.
Among the transplants carried out, kidney transplants topped the list with 117 procedures, benefiting the highest number of patients. This was followed by 67 liver transplants, 13 lung transplants, and four heart transplants. In addition, complex multi-organ procedures were also successfully conducted, including one heart-and-lung transplant, one kidney-and-heart transplant, and one kidney-and-pancreas transplant, highlighting the advanced medical coordination and expertise achieved through ZTCC Pune.
An analysis of the causes of brain death revealed that 28 donors had suffered fatal injuries due to accidents or trauma, while 51 donors were declared brain-dead due to illnesses or other non-trauma-related medical conditions.

In terms of gender distribution, male donors accounted for a larger share. Of the total donors, 72 per cent (57 donors) were men, while 28 per cent (22 donors) were women. Notably, the year also witnessed organ donation by an Australian woman, underlining the global and humanitarian nature of the organ donation movement in Pune.
ZTCC Pune officials said the centre’s sustained efforts have significantly increased public awareness about organ donation, enabling critically ill patients to receive life-saving transplants in time. Emphasising that organ donation is among the highest forms of humanitarian service, ZTCC appealed to citizens to come forward in larger numbers and pledge organ donation, thereby strengthening this life-saving movement and offering hope to countless families.
