Heavy Traffic on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Amid Ganpati Festival and Long Weekend Rush
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is experiencing severe traffic congestion this weekend, particularly on the Pune-bound side. Commuters are facing long delays, with significant queues forming in key sections of the expressway.
A major traffic bottleneck has been reported at Khandala Ghat, with vehicles queued up for 2-3 kilometers at the Khalapur Toll Plaza. Travelers describe the situation as “absolutely crazy,” with cars moving at a crawl. Pune-bound drivers are spending around 25 minutes at Khalapur Toll, an additional 10 minutes at Amrutanjan Bridge, and another 5 minutes at the second toll before reaching Pune.
To further compound the issue, traffic heading from Pune to Mumbai is gridlocked near the Khopoli Toll Plaza. Travelers have reported no assistance or alerts from authorities, leaving many trapped in a frustrating search for alternate routes.
The traffic woes began earlier in the day, with a 20-minute delay reported on the Pune-bound side of the expressway. As the weekend coincides with the ongoing Ganpati festival, a surge of travelers from Pune and Mumbai are making the journey to seek blessings, contributing to the heavy traffic.
Commuters are advised to plan their trips carefully and stay updated on traffic conditions. With increased traffic expected to persist throughout the weekend, delays are likely to continue.
