In a remarkable display of bravery and community spirit, villagers in Nanded district successfully rescued a group of school students trapped by floodwaters. The district has been experiencing relentless heavy rain for the past two days, leading to the flooding of several rivers and streams.

On the evening of July 16, a drain at Khairgaon in Ardhapur taluka overflowed, stranding students on the far side as they attempted to return home from school. The sudden rise in water levels caught the children off guard, trapping them in a potentially life-threatening situation.

Upon realizing the students’ predicament, the local villagers quickly mobilized to rescue them. Despite the perilous conditions, with water levels rising to their knees and heavy rain continuing to fall, the villagers formed a human chain to reach the stranded students. This courageous effort was captured on video, showcasing the community’s determination to ensure the children’s safety.

The students had attended school as usual, unaware of the danger that awaited them on their journey home. The flooded stream in Khairgaon posed a significant threat, but thanks to the villagers’ quick action, all students were safely brought to dry ground.

Residents of the area have long been demanding an increase in the height of the bridge on this road to prevent such incidents. The current bridge’s inadequate height results in frequent flooding during the monsoon season, forcing villagers to undertake risky rescue operations.

Despite the dangers, the villagers’ heroism ensured the students’ safety, highlighting the strength and unity of the Nanded community in times of crisis. The rescued students are reported to be safe, thanks to the swift and selfless efforts of their rescuers.
