According to a member of the National Road Safety Council, high-security registration plates (HSRP) should be required for all vehicles in Maharashtra. All vehicles registered after April 1, 2019 are already equipped with an HSRP.

Importance of HSRP:

·        Because counterfeit number plates make it simple for criminals to evade detection, replacing all license plates with HSRP is required.

·        While regular number plates are designed to mimic HSRP, they do not have the special features of HSRP, such as distinct laser codes that are updated on the Vahan portal of the transportation department.

·        Other security and safety features of HSRP, such as high visibility in low light owing to retro-reflectivity, are also absent from ordinary plates.

HSRP Features:

·        Hot-stamped hologram based on chromium

·        Based on chromium Ashok Chakra as a distinctive mark

·        Uniformity in pattern and font

·        Security note

·        PIN with laser encoding that is simple for authorities to scan

·        Snap-on locks that are irreplaceable and non-reusable

Installation

With permission from state government authorities, HSRPs are only installed at a limited number of vehicle vendors and dealers who are informed about them.

Dealers will be appointed following the conclusion of the bidding process. Tenders were posted in August of last year.

According to state transportation commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, this year’s implementation is likely.
