The first meeting regarding the merger of Pune and Khadki Cantonment Boards was concluded in front of the Ministry of Defense in Delhi on Monday (12 February) regarding the process of incorporating the civilian area within the boundaries of Pune and Khadki Cantonment Boards into the Pune Municipal Corporation. 

In the meeting, the Chief Executive Officers of Pune and Khadki Cantonment Boards gave a presentation regarding the merger. Also, there was a discussion about the merger of other cantonment boards in the state. MLA Sunil Kamble informed that Pune and Khadki Cantonment Boards will be merged within the next three months after asking for a report from the boards.

Kamble said that the Center will take a decision only after receiving the report from the state government. At present, the state has asked both the PMC and the Cantonment Boards to submit the final report. So positively within three months Pune & Khadki Cantonment Boards will be merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation.

In this meeting, the Ministry of Defense has requested the 12 Cantonment Boards of the country to positively send a resolution to demarcate the civilian areas from the cantonment limits. This includes the cantonment boards of Fatehgarh, Dehradun, Shahjahanpur, Clement Town, Ramgarh, Mathura of Central Command and Deolali, Babina, Morar, Nasirabad, Ajmer, Sagar of Southern Command.

Chief Executive Officer of Pune Cantonment Board Subrata Pal, Chief Executive Officer of Khadki Cantonment Board Meenakshi Lohia along with Defense Estate Officer of Defense Estate Department Pune and other military officers were present in the meeting. It is also understood that the next meeting has been organized in the month of March.
