A 33-year-old Wagholi resident attempted suicide on Tuesday by setting himself on fire in front of the Wagholi Police Chowki, in a startling development.

A case has been filed by the Pune City Police’s Lonikand Police Station against 15 people, including four members of the public and a construction industry professional, on counts of assault, caste abuse, and aiding suicide.

According to the complaint, the brothers were not allowed to use the society’s terrace or parking lot. The siblings were allegedly physically abused and subjected to caste-based abuse by the accused perpetrators, who included the builder and five other individuals.

Regarding the abuse, the victim had already complained to Wagholi Police Chowki. A non-cognizable offence (NC) case had been filed in response. But the victim insisted that the accused be taken into custody. The victim made an attempt at self-immolation in front of the Wagholi police Chowki on Tuesday morning.

In response to this terrifying event, the police have moved and formally filed a case against the people in question. The victim’s condition is currently unstable after sustaining critical injuries during the attempted self-immolation.
