The Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) has requested the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) to immediately cancel the CBSE Board Exam’s Sanskrit subject of 10th standard & Hindi subject exam of 12th standard on 19th February as its a holiday declared on 19th February on the occasion of the Jayanti of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Prashant Kanojia, Principal State Organizer, MNVS, said “19th February marks the Jayanti of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is a government holiday for the entire Maharashtra. Still, the CBSE has kept the Sanskrit subject exam for 10th standard & Hindi subject exam for 12th standard on 19th February. Before conducting exams on a government holiday, the CBSE should have planned the exams accordingly. Hence, we have submitted a request letter to the Director of CBSE as well as referred it to the Education Commissioner to not hold exams on 19th February. If the exams are still conducted on 19th February, the MNVS will fiercely show its opposition.”

As per further information from the request letter, February 19 is the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj which is celebrated with enthusiasm all over the country. On this day, the CBSE board has scheduled exams in the time table. While planning the board exams, government holidays in the state are considered but CBSE board is deliberately doing this.

The letter further continues that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is the idol of Maharashtra. While the Maharashtra government has declared an official holiday on his birth anniversary i.e. 19th February, the CBSE board should have coordinated with the education department in the state regarding exam scheduling. The MNVS feels that the CBSE board is deliberately insulting the deity of Maharashtra. Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena will not allow examinations to take place on this day.

The letter further says that the MNVS requested that the CBSE Board immediately order the cancellation of the February 19 exams. A statement was given to the Director of the Central Board of Secondary Education.

During this time, along with Prashant Kanojia, other members of MNVS like Ashish Sable, Adv Sachin Pawar, Rupesh Gholap, Sunil Kadam, Balasaheb Shingade, Kirti Machrekar were present.
