High-Voltage Line Failure Causes Widespread Power Cut in Pune’s Hinjewadi and Wakad
A sudden and unexpected fire ignited in the hilly region of Ambegaon on Saturday, March 22, causing a significant power outage that affected thousands of residents and businesses. The fire, which began around 12:44 PM, quickly spread through dry shrubs and trees, ultimately reaching the 220 KV high-voltage transmission line owned by MSEDCL. This contact caused a trip in the system, leading to a power outage that impacted a wide range of areas, including Hinjewadi, Wakad, Pirangut, and several others.
The outage, which lasted for 43 minutes, affected approximately 10,200 customers, including households, businesses, and even the 200 IT companies located in Hinjewadi. The fire also resulted in the shutdown of 31 substations across the Pimpri and Mulshi divisions of MSEDCL, leading to an 182 MW power deficit.
Despite the widespread impact, MSEDCL’s senior engineers responded swiftly to the situation. They arrived at the site promptly and successfully restored power to the entire region within 43 minutes, minimizing the disruption to daily life.
