Hinjawadi Infrastructure Crisis: Authorities Fail to Address Severe Issues Despite Deputy Chief Minister’s Directives
Hinjawadi, a key IT hub in Pune, is experiencing a severe infrastructure crisis, with local authorities failing to address persistent issues despite repeated directives from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The area’s residents, frustrated by the lack of action, are voicing their discontent and demanding immediate improvements.
Infrastructure Woes Persist
Hinjawadi, part of the Mann area, is overseen by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and the Hinjawadi Gram Panchayat. However, critical infrastructure projects remain stalled, even after discussions between corporators and the deputy chief minister.

Residents are grappling with several problems, including inadequate road infrastructure, severe traffic congestion, poor public transport services, and ineffective waste management. Despite the introduction of the Metro, essential infrastructure improvements have been lacking in key villages such as Hinjawadi, Mann, and Kasarsai. Key roads in Mulshi taluka remain incomplete, essential bridges (Sakav bridges) are still not constructed, and drainage lines are missing in low-income areas like Kasarsai.

Residents’ Frustration
Local residents have repeatedly raised these concerns with officials and the municipal council, but their pleas have largely gone unanswered. The lack of internal roads and drainage in Hinjawadi, coupled with inadequate improvements to local public transport, highlights the disconnect between authorities and the community’s needs.
While significant funds have been allocated for the Metro project, other critical areas have been neglected. Ajit Pawar’s meeting aimed at addressing traffic congestion has yet to yield tangible results. There are plans to establish a separate police station to address law and order issues, but this has not yet alleviated the core infrastructural problems.

Urgent Development Needed
Calls for immediate action are growing, with suggestions to prioritize funds for development work in Ghotawade, Shelkewadi, Pimpoli, and Kasarsai. Expediting roadworks in these areas is deemed essential for improving residents’ quality of life. A proposed meeting involving villagers, municipal officials, and local office bearers aims to ensure that community input is considered in future development projects.
Dangerous Conditions
The lack of a bridge over the stream near the Pimpoli bus stop creates hazardous conditions, especially during the rainy season. Floodwaters render the road impassable, isolating residents of Khamboli, Katarkhadak, and Andhale. NCP’s Baba Shelke has submitted a request to the PMRDA commissioner for the construction of a Sakav bridge to address this issue.
Appeals for Basic Infrastructure
Residents of Sainagar, Kasarsai, have urgently appealed for the development of drainage and road infrastructure, citing the absence of sewage treatment for 300 homes. Former sarpanch Anand Late has called on authorities to prioritize these improvements by allocating necessary funds.
Ongoing Problems
The road linking Hinjawadi with Marunji, Nere, Kasarsai, and Mann remains riddled with potholes. Despite extensive construction in Nere and Marunji, new roads are being laid without addressing existing issues. Frequent power outages and traffic congestion further exacerbate the situation, leaving locals increasingly frustrated with the lack of accountability and unresolved problems.
The continued neglect of Hinjawadi’s infrastructure highlights the urgent need for effective governance and responsive action to meet the community’s pressing needs.
