Pune: Residents in Hinjewadi have been facing issues for a long time as they have to commute every day on roads filled with potholes.

Ankit Shukla, a resident of Hinjewadi, said, “The potholes issue has been there for a long time. Due to heavy rains & water logging, potholes on the entire route weren’t visible. Recently, when I was driving, due to water accumulated on the road, I didn’t know that potholes were there & I felt like my car was going to get stuck. This is how bad the issue has become. Along with potholes, wrong side driving, people ignore traffic rules. I pay a lot of tax but it is of no use as mine & the public’s money is simply wasted. When VIPs are about to come, all the roads are made proper by filling the potholes & everything. Traffic police are also very alert at such times. This means that repairing roads, filling potholes, etc. is doable. It is just the willingness of the administration to do it every time as well.”

Tejas Tamboli, another resident of Hinjewadi Phase 2 said, “Potholes are there on the road for a long time. Driving gets worse due to these potholes which is one thing. Another thing is no proper traffic management as traffic signals are not there at some spots between Hinjewadi IT Park Phase 1 & Phase 2. A lot of traffic jams happen every day from Grand Tamanna Hotel to Croma & elsewhere too. It takes me around 45 minutes to travel just 2 to 3 km. Hence, proper traffic management must be there firstly & potholes must be filled along with other repair works.”

Sandeep Yadav, a resident of Hinjewadi said, “Potholes issue has become a total menace. Every day, we have to drive on such bad roads. Water has accumulated near the Quadron building in Hinjewadi Phase 2, making driving for common citizens all the more difficult. Construction works are also going on at some places. Along with potholes, traffic congestions happen, traffic rules are not being followed and much more. Overall, the taxpayers’ money is getting wasted.”

Yatin, an X user, took it to X & stated “Roads are worse on Hinjewadi Phase 2 and Phase 3, which is an IT Hub. In fact, a 3 to 4 km patch is completely in potholes. We, as IT professionals, request authorities to intervene in this matter.”

Arun Pawar, admin, Hinjewadi Industrial Association said, “We have already sent requests to the MIDC regarding the pothole issue for which action is expected to be taken soon.”

Kalpesh Nahiwal, Deputy Engineer, MIDC Hinjewadi Phase 2 said, “We have started filling potholes, however, due to heavy rains in the past days, we are forced to stop the repair works. Thus, once rain gets over for good, we will begin tarring & repair work of roads immediately.”
