Honest Woman Refuses To Touch Rs.10 Crore Credited By Mistake, Wins Praise
Farmer’s wife in Mainpuri alerts bank after spotting massive balance, says ‘not mine’
A woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district has won widespread admiration after nearly ₹10 crore was mistakenly credited to her bank account and she refused to use even a single rupee.
Rita, the wife of farmer Parasbhan Baheliya from Devganj village in the Bichwan area, discovered the unexpected amount during Navratri while trying to withdraw money. When she visited her local bank branch on Ashtami, it was closed, prompting her to check her balance at a nearby ATM.
To her shock, the screen displayed a balance of ₹9,99,49,588 — close to ₹10 crore. Unable to believe what she saw, she checked again at another ATM and even recorded a video of the transaction slip, which later went viral.
Despite the massive amount appearing in her account, Rita chose not to withdraw any money. She also instructed her family members to stay away from the funds until the issue was clarified.
When the family approached the bank to report the matter, they found it closed due to a public holiday. Officials later indicated that the incident was likely caused by a technical error or transaction glitch and assured that it would be investigated once the branch reopened.
The incident has since become a talking point in the area, with locals praising Rita’s honesty and integrity. Many have highlighted her decision as an example of strong values, especially at a time when she had full access to the money but chose to do the right thing.
Her simple response — that the money did not belong to her — has struck a chord, turning a routine banking error into a powerful story of honesty.
