Pune, 15 March 2025: The Hindu Mahila Sabha of Pune will host ‘Aamche Navrangi kartutva’, a program commemorating International Women’s Day.  It will highlight the achievements of the nine Karmarkar sisters, India’s first female Mallakhamb athletes. The program will take place on Saturday, 22nd March,2025 at 5:00pm at S.M. Joshi Auditorium, Navi Peth, Pune and is free and open to all on a first-come, first-served basis.
Vaidya M. D. Karmarkar from Miraj, was the first Indian in the pre-independence era to research the use of Mallakhamb for girls from the perspective of Ayurveda. He initiated this practice with his nine daughters, establishing hanging and Rope Mallakhamb for girls.

‘Aamche Navrangi kartutvan’ program will feature nine Karmarkar sisters, now known as Padmaja Chitale, Dr. Vrunda Sathe, Meena Apte, Supriya Barve, Sunila Deodhar, Vaishali Bhat, Rukmini Sathe, Shilpa Patwardhan and Sonia Patwardhan. Renowned author and senior interviewer, Madhuri Tamhane will interact with the nine Karmarkar Sisters on this occasion.
