Hurun India Rich List: Zepto Co-Founder Kaivalya Vohra Recognized as Youngest Billionaire
The co-founder of Zepto, a quick e-commerce platform that delivers groceries in 10 minutes, has become the country’s youngest billionaire. He dropped out of college to start his business, and today, his company is valued at over a billion dollars.
In a significant indication of the rapid growth of quick commerce companies in India, 21-year-old Kaivalya Vohra, co-founder of Zepto, has maintained his status as the youngest billionaire on the Hurun India Rich List 2024. Vohra boasts a net worth of ₹3,600 crore. The young entrepreneur, born in 2003, first appeared on the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List in 2022 when he was just 19 years old.
His co-founder and friend, 22-year-old Aadit Palicha, ranks as the second youngest billionaire in India, with a net worth of ₹4,300 crore, according to the 2024 list. The duo launched their quick commerce venture, Zepto, in 2021 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, capitalizing on the rising demand for grocery delivery services.
Notably, seven of the top 11 youngest billionaires in India are involved in “new-age businesses.” In addition to Vohra and Palicha, the list includes Shashvat Nakrani of BharatPe (₹1,300 crore, age 26), Ritesh Agarwal of Oyo (₹1,900 crore, age 30), Alakh Pandey of Physics Wallah (₹4,500 crore, age 32), and Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar of Razorpay (both with ₹8,700 crore, age 33). These entrepreneurs are primarily engaged in payment services, online hotel bookings, and the edtech sector.
The Hurun India Rich List 2024, released on August 29, reveals a 29% increase in the number of dollar billionaires in India, bringing the total to 334. Remarkably, a new billionaire was added approximately every five days last year.
For the first time, Hyderabad has surpassed Bengaluru to claim the third spot on the list of cities with the most new entrants to the Hurun list, following Mumbai and New Delhi.
