IAS Officer Dr Vijay Suryawanshi Appointed New PCMC Commissioner
Pimpri-Chinchwad, March 11, 2026: The Maharashtra government has appointed senior IAS officer Dr Vijay Suryawanshi as the new Municipal Commissioner of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The appointment order was issued on Wednesday by the state’s General Administration Department of Maharashtra.
According to the official notification signed by Joint Secretary Subhash Umranikar, Dr Suryawanshi has been transferred to fill the vacant post of PCMC Commissioner. The position has been placed in the Supertime Pay Scale, a senior-level grade in the Indian Administrative Service.
Dr Suryawanshi, a 2006-batch IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, is currently serving as the Divisional Commissioner of the Konkan Division, headquartered at Konkan Bhavan in Navi Mumbai. As per the order, he has been directed to hand over charge of his present post in consultation with the Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue, Registration and Stamp Duty Department before assuming his new role.
He will take over the position from Shravan Hardikar, who is currently serving as the Municipal Commissioner of PCMC.
During his administrative career, Dr Suryawanshi has held several important roles in Maharashtra. He previously served as Additional Metropolitan Commissioner at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and as Municipal Commissioner of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.
He has also worked as District Collector in Raigad district and Gondia district.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is among the largest civic bodies in Maharashtra and governs the fast-growing industrial city of Pimpri-Chinchwad near Pune. Officials said Dr Suryawanshi is expected to assume charge soon after completing the formal handover of his current responsibilities.
