IAS Officer Tukaram Mundhe Gets 25th Transfer I21 Years, Appointed Maharashtra FDA Commissioner
Mumbai, May 20, 2026: Senior IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe has been transferred once again and appointed as Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), marking his 25th transfer in a 21-year administrative career.
Known for his strict administrative style and aggressive action against irregularities, Mundhe has frequently remained in the spotlight not only for his work but also for his repeated transfers across various departments in Maharashtra.
In March 2026, Mundhe was appointed Secretary of the Disaster Management, Revenue and Forest Department. However, within just one-and-a-half months, the state government issued fresh transfer orders appointing him as FDA Commissioner.
The latest posting has sparked fresh discussion in bureaucratic circles, with many describing it as a “silver jubilee” of transfers due to the frequency of his reassignments.
Along with Mundhe, the state government also announced transfers of three other senior officials:
- Kanhuraj Bagate has been transferred from the post of Managing Director of Mahadiscom, Kalyan, and appointed Managing Director of Maha Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation.
- Shridhar Dube, who was serving as FDA Commissioner, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority in Thane.
- Babasaheb Beldar has been shifted from the post of Managing Director of the Mahatma Phule Corporation to Chief Executive Officer of the Dhule Zilla Parishad.
During his career, Tukaram Mundhe has served in several important administrative roles across Maharashtra, including Pune PMPML chief, Nashik Municipal Commissioner, Nagpur Municipal Commissioner and Health Services Commissioner.
His frequent transfers over the years have often triggered debates about administrative stability and political interference in bureaucracy, while supporters continue to praise his tough governance approach and anti-corruption measures.
