IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain Across Maharashtra Till July 7 as Monsoon Gains Strength
Pune District On Red Alert As Heavy Rain Likely Over Next Three Hours
30 June, 2026: The monsoon has regained momentum across Maharashtra after a brief lull, with several parts of the Western Ghats witnessing heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Popular hill destinations including Lonavala and Tamhini received intense showers, with rainfall crossing the 100 mm mark in multiple locations.
According to rainfall data, Lonavala recorded the highest precipitation at 160 mm, followed by Dungerwadi (158 mm). Walvan, Tamhini and Koyna-Pophali each received 125 mm, while Lonavala Tata recorded 100 mm of rainfall.

Rainfall activity also intensified across Pune district. Rajgurunagar received 77.5 mm of rain, followed by Malin (43.5 mm), Dudulgaon (36.5 mm), Narayangaon (36 mm), Baramati (22.4 mm), Dapodi (22 mm), Daund (21 mm) and Nimgiri (18.5 mm). Shivajinagar recorded 11.8 mm of rainfall till Monday morning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across Maharashtra over the next week. A Yellow Alert has been issued for the Pune ghat region from July 2, while an Orange Alert has been announced for July 2 and 3, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.
For Pune city, the IMD has predicted generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 50 kmph over the next few days.
The weather department has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Konkan and Goa on July 2 and 3. Meteorologists said a low-pressure system is likely to develop around July 1, which is expected to strengthen monsoon activity across Maharashtra between July 1 and July 7, bringing the season’s first major spell of widespread rainfall.
