The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rain in several states in southern and northern India until May 23.

South India:

  • IMD forecasts “isolated extremely heavy rainfall”in Tamil Nadu and Kerala until May 24.
  • Heavy rain is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe on May 23.
  • Coastal Karnataka will likely see heavy rain on May 21 and 22, and South Interior Karnataka till May 21.
  • Light to moderate rain is expected in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema over the next seven days.
  • Coastal Karnataka may experience heavy rain on May 20 and 23, South Interior Karnataka on May 22 and 23, and Lakshadweep on May 22.
  • The Andaman & Nicobar Islands will have light to moderate rain over the next week, with heavy rain in the Nicobar Islands from May 20 to 23.
  • Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada will see light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds until May 22. Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh will experience similar weather until May 23.

North India:

  • A western disturbance over Afghanistan and Pakistan will bring light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning to Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh until May 21, and Uttarakhand over the next seven days.
  • Strong winds are expected in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan for the next five days.
  • Odisha, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand will have light rain until May 23.
  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will experience light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next five days.

North-East India:

  • A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam will cause gusty winds (30-40 km/h) in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next five days.
  • Heavy rain is predicted in Sikkim until May 21 and in Assam and Meghalaya on May 20.

Heatwave Conditions:

  • IMD warns of severe heatwave conditions in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West and East Rajasthan, West and East Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, north Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from May 19 to 23.
  • Hot and humid weather is likely in Konkan, Goa, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Odisha on May 19 and 20.
  • Warm nights are expected in East Rajasthan until May 23.
