The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and cold wave conditions across several states and union territories.

Heavy Rainfall in Southern India

• Tamil Nadu: Several districts, including Chennai, Villuppuram, and Thanjavur, are experiencing intense rainfall due to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. Alerts ranging from yellow to orange have been issued, and schools remain closed in affected areas.

• Kerala: Heavy rains have been reported, with orange alerts issued for districts like Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur. Warnings persist for widespread rain through December 16.

• Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka: Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Karnataka are also on alert for heavy rains, particularly in coastal and southern interior regions.

Cold Wave Warnings in Northern India

• Cold wave conditions are forecasted over Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh on Friday.

Broader Weather Predictions

While southern and central parts of India are expected to see above-average rainfall in December, northern and eastern regions are likely to experience normal or below-normal precipitation levels. The public is advised to stay updated on weather alerts, as conditions could worsen with the development of the low-pressure system.
