Important Alert: Avoid Phonda Ghat When Traveling From Konkan To Kolhapur, Advises Public Works Department
Phonda Ghat Closed for Heavy Traffic; Alternative Routes Recommended
If Travelling and heading from Konkan to Kolhapur, be aware of recent changes in road accessibility. The Public Works Department has announced that the Fonda Ghat, a vital connection between Konkan and Kolhapur, is now closed to heavy traffic. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays and ensure safety.
The closure of Phonda Ghat comes shortly after the closure of Karul Ghat for heavy vehicles. Additionally, heavy vehicles are now prohibited on the Devgad-Nipani road due to necessary repairs following a broken pipe on the road.
Sindhudurg district has also been severely affected by heavy rains, leading to significant damage on several routes. The Amberi Bridge in the Mangaon Valley near Kudal has been badly damaged and is now completely closed. This has isolated 27 villages in the Mangaon Valley, as the newly constructed bridge in the area is not yet open to traffic. Local residents are urging the authorities to expedite the opening of the new bridge to restore connectivity.

On the Murud-Alibag route, the bridge at Chikani has become hazardous. Consequently, the administration has restricted traffic on this bridge from 10 PM to 6 AM. Travellers are encouraged to take alternative routes via Salav – Supegaon – Murud or Salav – Roha – Murud, although this will involve a significant detour.
The situation is similarly challenging on the Raigad-Alibag route. A fallen tree in Wadgaon has caused a temporary traffic blockade. The disaster management team has since cleared the tree, and traffic has resumed. For now, traffic is being diverted through Karlekhind Kankeshwar Phata.
Important Note:
- Avoid Phonda Ghat: Closed for heavy traffic.
- Use Alternative Routes: Follow advised detours to ensure safety and avoid delays.
