Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has released a list of symptoms & precautions to be taken for diseases such as Dengue, Chikunguniya, Malaria etc.

As per information from the X handle of PCMC, “Don’t be afraid. Take care of health! At present, outbreaks of dengue, chikungunya and winter fever are occurring everywhere. Citizens should take proper precautions. If symptoms of dengue fever or winter fever are detected, go to municipal hospital for examination immediately.”

As per further information, symptoms of Dengue patients are high fever, severe headache, muscle pain, joint pain, vomiting, pain inside the eyes, body rash, weakness, loss of appetite and dry mouth, bleeding from the nose and vomiting of blood. Bloody/dark stools, abdominal pain, low blood pressure, coldness of hands and feet. In some patients, during this time, the amount of blood in the blood decreases and becomes uncomfortable. A severe unconscious state in which the patient may become unconscious is called dengue shock syndrome and has a high mortality rate.

Symptoms of Chikunguniya patients are short term fever, headache, body ache, acute dyspepsia, rash on the body. All symptoms last for 7 to 10 days.

Symptoms of Malaria patients are fever with chills which may be persistent or may occur for a day or so. Later, sweat comes and the body becomes cold. Vomiting often happens with headache.

Following are the precautions to be taken by citizens for all the above diseases:

·         Consult the nearest doctor of Pimpri Chinchwad Hospital.

·         Check up at municipal dispensary hospital.

·         Observe at least 1 dry day in a week.

·         At least once a week, empty the water tank in the house, wipe it, dry it and reuse it.

·         Close the water reservoirs (e.g. pots, drums etc.) with tight lids.

·         For personal protection from mosquitoes, use of mosquito nets, use of anti-mosquito cream, wearing clothes that cover the body completely, keeping the house and surroundings clean etc.
