India has emerged as the leading source of travelers passing through Dubai International Airport (DXB), currently ranked as the world’s busiest airport for international flights. On Monday, the airport announced that it had accommodated a total of 11.9 million passengers, exceeding annual expectations and surpassing pre-pandemic traffic levels.

In 2023, DXB experienced a significant increase in passenger numbers, reaching a total of 86.9 million passengers (86,994,365), marking a remarkable year-on-year growth of 31.7%. This surpassed the 2019 numbers of 86.4 million passengers. The surge was particularly strong in the second half of the year, with the airport recording a total of 45.4 million guests. December emerged as the busiest month in the fourth quarter, hosting 7.8 million guests. In total, the airport welcomed 22.4 million guests during this quarter, marking a 13.8% year-on-year growth compared to the same period the previous year. The third quarter of 2023 stood out as the quarter with the highest traffic since 2019, accommodating 23 million guests, with August claiming the title of the busiest month with 7.9 million guests.

As of 2023, DXB is globally connected, serving 262 destinations across 104 countries through 102 international carriers. The airport’s connectivity and passenger numbers showcase its resilience and continued growth, even surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
