Amid rising tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), Indian Air Defence systems on Friday evening intercepted and destroyed multiple drones and aerial projectiles in the Awantipura region of South Kashmir, defence sources confirmed.
The hostile aerial activity, reportedly initiated by Pakistan, targeted key military and strategic locations in Jammu and Kashmir. In response, the Indian Air Defence swiftly neutralised the threats, preventing potential damage and casualties.
Soon after the interception, a complete power blackout was reported in Awantipura, adding to the tension in the already volatile region. While officials have not confirmed whether the blackout was a security measure or the result of drone-related infrastructure damage, the incident has prompted heightened alert across the valley.
Drone Threat Highlights Rising Cross-Border Conflict
This development marks a sharp escalation in the ongoing India-Pakistan military standoff, which has seen an uptick in drone incursions, missile exchanges, and retaliatory artillery fire in recent weeks.
Security forces have ramped up aerial surveillance and counter-drone operations in sensitive areas, particularly near the LoC and key defence installations.
“Indian defence systems are fully operational and on high alert. All attempts to breach airspace will be met with immediate retaliation,” a senior military official stated on condition of anonymity.
The latest drone activity reflects Pakistan’s apparent shift toward using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in asymmetric warfare, raising serious concerns about national security and regional stability.
