Early this morning, the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Around 3 am, terrorists launched an attack, resulting in an exchange of heavy gunfire. During the skirmish, one soldier was injured and has since been evacuated to a hospital for treatment, according to the Army’s XVI Corps.

This incident marks the second terrorist activity reported in the Jammu region within the past 24 hours, specifically in the Poonch and Rajouri areas. The Army’s White Knight Corps tweeted about the operation, stating, “Alert troops foiled an #infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating #terrorists with effective fire in the #Battal Sector at 0300h. During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing.”

The latest infiltration attempt comes amid a surge in terrorist attacks in the Jammu region. Over the past 32 months, 48 army soldiers have lost their lives in confrontations with terrorists in this area.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Union territory on Saturday to discuss strategies to counter the increasing number of terrorist attacks in a region that was largely free from such incidents until a few years ago. His visit underscored the urgency of addressing the growing threat.

Just a day after his visit, terrorists attacked an army camp in Rajouri and targeted the home of a Village Defence Guard who had previously received the Shaurya Chakra for neutralizing two terrorists last year. In this attack, another soldier was injured early Monday morning, but the Army’s heavy retaliation forced the terrorists to flee.

This incident follows a recent pattern of terrorist activities in the region. Last Friday, terrorists opened fire at a temporary army camp set up in a school in Doda district. In the same area, four soldiers, including a captain, were killed last week, just days after five soldiers were ambushed and killed in Kathua.

Security forces have identified the involvement of Pakistani terrorists in these attacks and are developing strategies to locate and eliminate the threats. In response to the heightened activities, the Army has deployed additional troops and Para Special Forces commandos to combat the highly trained terrorists operating in the Jammu region.
