The pilot of an IndiGo aircraft headed for Delhi on Wednesday reported a technical issue with one of the engines, forcing the aircraft to return halfway and make an emergency landing at Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport, according to officials.

In the meantime, severe weather in Patna caused four IndiGo flights to be canceled that day, including two to Delhi and one each to Hyderabad and Mumbai. The delays caused inconvenience to the passengers on board.

The Patna airport director said that due to a technical issue, the pilots of Indigo 6E2074, the Patna-Delhi flight, requested to return to Patna after taking off at 12:58 p.m. The plane returned to Patna safely.

After reporting a problem with one of the engines and requesting a priority landing, the pilots successfully returned the aircraft to Jayprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna. When this report was submitted at 2:45 p.m., the aircraft was grounded.

A technical issue caused the flight to return to its original location at 1:50 pm, according to the airport director. Shortly after the flight left Patna, the pilot reported the issue to Air Traffic Control and asked for an emergency landing. All of the passengers disembarked after the aircraft made a safe landing back in Patna.

While the airline was organizing a different aircraft to transport the stranded passengers to their destination, the state minister of water resources, who was also on the flight, canceled his trip for the day, according to IndiGo executives at Patna airport.

According to an airline executive, passengers had the choice to take alternative IndiGo flights to Delhi. They have accommodated the passengers in other flights based on seat availability.

The officials said that a hydraulic issue was the cause of the aircraft’s technical issue.
