International Multipurpose Sports Complex in Moshi Set to Become Reality
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is moving forward with plans to establish an international multipurpose sports complex in Moshi soon. The tender for this ambitious project has been officially issued. The construction is expected to begin once the tender process concludes.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mahesh Landge has been a driving force behind the initiative, aiming to transform Pimpri-Chinchwad into a prominent sports hub. His efforts to bring the international sports complex to fruition have finally materialized, following extensive discussions with the PCMC.
The complex will come up on plots 442 and 445 in Moshi, designated under reservation number 1/204 in the approved development plan. The approval for the project was granted on July 25, 2023, and an area of 4.56 hectares was reserved for the stadium.
The project was inspired by the world-class sports club developed by the Maharashtra Cricket Association at the Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The proposed project aims to enhance the sporting infrastructure in Pimpri-Chinchwad significantly.
The facility will accommodate a variety of sports, including cricket, football, volleyball, baseball, and swimming, providing athletes with the necessary resources to excel. Additionally, it is expected to generate permanent revenue for the PCMC. The project will be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, following the “Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer” principle.
Speaking about the project, Landge said, “We are committed to make Pimpri-Chinchwad a ‘Sports City’ as part of our ‘Bhosari Vision-2020.’ We have already initiated several projects, including an international kabaddi training center, a wrestling training center, an international boxing center, and a skating ground. We also plan to establish a Pimpri-Chinchwad Sports Club at Annasaheb Magar Stadium in Nehrunagar. I hope the administration completes the tender process for the international multipurpose sports complex in Moshi soon and lays the foundation for a state sports university.”
