The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is poised to commence from March 22, according to league chairman Arun Dhumal.

Despite coinciding with general elections in April and May, Dhumal assured that the entire tournament will be conducted in India.

To accommodate the electoral schedule, only the first 15 days of the IPL will be initially announced, with the remainder subject to the release of election dates in early March.

While general elections prompted the relocation of IPL events in 2009 and 2014, Dhumal affirmed the commitment to holding the entire 2024 season in India.

The IPL’s grand finale is expected to be scheduled for May 26, closely followed by the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, commencing on June 1.

The opening match will feature last year’s champions, Chennai Super Kings, and runners-up Gujarat Titans. The IPL 2024 player auction, held in December 2023, witnessed Australian pacer Mitchell Starc becoming the league’s most expensive player after Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him for ₹24.75 crore.
