People over 60 and those with comorbidities are now required to wear masks, according to the Karnataka government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in response to the increasing alarm over Covid-19 subvariant JN.1 cases in Kerala.

Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Karnataka health minister, has announced that more tests are being conducted on individuals exhibiting symptoms of the Covid-19 subvariant JN.1. The minister also disclosed that the state government has stepped up monitoring in districts that share a border with Kerala.

The Karnataka health minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, stated that the government will release an advisory and that the situation is being continuously monitored. As of right now, there is no need for any restrictions on people’s ability to move about or gathering.

The Karnataka health minister stated that nobody has to worry about this. Their technical advisory committee had a meeting and the officials and experts discussed the steps that needed to be taken.

He further added that it is mandatory for individuals over 60 years old, those with comorbid conditions such as heart and kidney problems, and those suffering from fever, phlegm, or cough to wear masks. They are informing the general public about this. They have also requested that the health centers and hospitals be ready. In border districts with Kerala, such as Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, and Chamarajanagara, there ought to be increased monitoring.

The health minister further said that there are currently no restrictions on gatherings or people’s freedom of movement when asked if there would be any for Ayyappa pilgrims returning from Kerala.
