Maharashtra witnessed a landmark moment in railway infrastructure development today with the inauguration of 12 redeveloped stations across Central Railway. These include five stations each in the Mumbai and Bhusaval divisions, and two in the Pune Division. The event was part of a nationwide programme where the Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated 103 redeveloped railway stations to the nation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme through video conferencing on 22nd May 2025.

Distinguished dignitaries graced the occasion at various locations across the state to mark this significant milestone.

The two stations inaugurated were Kedgaon and Lonand Junction, both redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to offer enhanced passenger amenities, improved accessibility, and upgraded infrastructure.

At Kedgaon Station, Rahul Kul,  MLA, Daund;  Ramesh Thorat, Ex-MLA, Daund;  B.D. Sodanwar, Sarpanch, Bori Pardi; and Vaijnath Sable, Ex-Subedar (Ex-Army Serviceman), were present on the occasion. The event was graced by the presence of senior railway officials including Dr. Milind Hirwe, Chief Passenger Transportation Manager, Central Railway and Padmsinh Jadhav, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Pune Division. The programme saw enthusiastic participation from school children, passengers, railway staff and ex-army servicemen. A cultural programme was held, and essay and drawing competitions were organised for school students. Prizes were distributed to the winners during the event.

At Lonand Junction, local dignitaries including Madhumati Galande (Nagaradhyaksha), Gani Kachachhi (Up-Nagaradhyaksha), Rajshri Shelke (Nagar Sevika), Misku Anna Shelke – Sipahi (Maji Sainik Adhyaksha), and Kailash Humbare – Hawaldar (Maji Sainik Up-Adhyaksha) were present. Ex-army servicemen were also notably present and participated in the celebrations. The event was attended by Rajesh Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, Pune. 

The ceremony featured cultural performances and community engagement. School children visited the station as part of the programme and participated in essay and drawing competitions. Prizes were distributed today at Lonand Junction by DRM Pune Rajesh Kumar Verma to honour the creativity and enthusiasm of the students.

The redevelopment of these stations and the vibrant public celebrations during their inauguration reflect Pune Division’s strong commitment to Indian Railways’ vision of creating safe, modern, and passenger-friendly railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
