Kidnapping or Kind Gesture? YouTuber in Ramanagara Detained After Incident with Minor
A 38-year-old YouTuber from Tumakuru has been taken into custody by Ramanagara police for allegedly abducting a 17-year-old girl and attempting to engage in inappropriate behavior with her near Magadi Town in the early hours of January 1. Police sources said the minor’s statements so far have been inconsistent, and her family has also given conflicting accounts, making the investigation more complex.
The accused, identified as Ravi Jamuna, who runs the RJ Digital News YouTube channel, was initially remanded to police custody for one day before being sent to judicial custody at Ramanagara district prison. He faces multiple charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the complaint filed by the girl’s father, the incident occurred around 2 am as she was walking home alone from her aunt’s residence following New Year’s celebrations. “My daughter refused to respond when he asked about a farmhouse party. He then pulled her into his car and misbehaved with her. Another man was with him in the vehicle. They drove some distance, parked, and the other man consumed alcohol before leaving. The accused continued driving with my daughter, but she noticed his phone and managed to call her brother. We rushed to the location and found the car had crashed into a shop. That’s when we rescued her,” he said.
Ravi Jamuna, however, denied the allegations, claiming, “I was returning to Tumakuru after filming New Year festivities at a farmhouse. The girl requested a lift, saying someone was waiting for her nearby. She then asked for my phone to call her brother. When her family arrived, she unexpectedly accused me of forcing her into the car and misbehaving.”
A senior police officer commented on the case, noting, “We asked the family why they allowed her to walk alone at 2 am, but they could not provide a clear explanation. Additionally, the minor’s statements have been inconsistent.”
The girl’s family has filed complaints not only against Jamuna but also against his friend who accompanied him in the car and the owner of the farmhouse where the New Year party was held.
According to police, Jamuna and two friends had been partying prior to the incident. When they approached the girl, she was forcibly pulled into the car and allegedly subjected to inappropriate touching. She managed to contact her family using the phone of one of the friends after he got out of the car. Her family then located the vehicle, rescued her, and detained Jamuna. Police continue to investigate the involvement of his friends.
The case is being pursued under the POCSO Act, and authorities are examining the roles of all individuals present to ensure justice is served.
