As the deadline for voter registration approaches in Pune, district election officials reported a surge of over 50,000 applications for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat since January. Of these, 6,294 new voter applications await processing and are slated to be completed by April 18.

Registration for voters in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, scheduled for polling on May 7, concluded on Tuesday. New voter registrations are permissible up to 10 days before the last day of nominations for each of the seven phases of elections.

For the fourth and fifth phases of polls in the state, voter registration remains open. However, the last day for voter registration in Pune, Shirur, and Maval is April 15, aligned with the April 25 deadline for nominations. Meanwhile, registrations for the fifth phase are accepted until April 23, with the nomination deadline set for May 3.

The Baramati constituency encompasses six Assembly constituencies, including Daund, Indapur, Baramati, Purandar, Bhor, and Khadakwasla, boasting an electorate of 23.62 lakh individuals.

District collector Suhas Diwase assured a continuous process of clearing new voter applications, emphasizing that no deletions of voter names would occur during this period. Applicants can either register as new voters or request a change in constituency by filling out Form 8.

Since January 23, the district election office has received approximately 1.94 lakh applications for all constituencies. However, some applicants have reported temporary server glitches, causing delays in the registration process. Despite these challenges, efforts are underway to ensure a smooth and efficient voter registration process leading up to the upcoming elections.
