Kolhapur: On Sunday morning, a significant gathering of workers and supporters from various right-wing groups staged a protest at the base of Vishalgad Fort. They called for the removal of illegal structures and a prohibition on animal slaughter at the historic site.

Residents in the area reported that these unauthorized buildings are being used for parties and rented out to tourists. The protestors, under the banner of the ‘Vishalgad Mukti Sangram’ campaign, also conducted an ‘aarti’ during their demonstration.

In a related move, Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, who is leading one of the factions, convened with his supporters at the Government Circuit House to plan strategies aimed at compelling the district administration to demolish the illegal structures.

After the meeting, Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati announced plans to visit the fort on July 13 with thousands of followers if the administration does not take decisive action. The former Rajya Sabha MP accused a local political leader of hindering the administration’s efforts.
