The recent fatal accident on NIBM Undri road has sent shockwaves through the local community, shedding light on the pressing need for the development of the stretch from Bakers Point on NIBM road to Kad Nagar in Undri. However, despite two weeks passing since the incident, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has failed to present a concrete plan of action, leaving residents deeply troubled.

In response to the PMC’s inaction, the NIBM Undri Road Residents Forum has organized a Rasta Roko on June 11 at 10 AM, taking place near Clover Palisades (Opposite Bizbay Mall) on NIBM Undri road. Frustrated by the lack of progress, the residents argue that the PMC has repeatedly ignored their requests for a clear development plan for NIBM Undri road.

The road’s inadequate management, characterized by encroachments, narrow lanes, improper leveling, and absence of safety signage, has contributed to numerous fatal and serious accidents. Residents are demanding a safe and wider motorable road that addresses these issues.

The traffic congestion has escalated due to the delay in completion of the Cloud 9 road work and alternate roads not being in good and motorable conditions. The residents complained that the PMC before taking up the road work should have taken up the work of creating alternate roads which would have resolved most of the traffic congestion issues and created less frustration among the residents.

Residents of the NIBM road and surrounding areas had previously held a rasta roko to bring PMC’s attention over the impending issues of the area. But there seems to be no action on it, alleged resident.

One member of the forum emphasized the daily challenges faced by residents while driving along the NIBM Undri road. Traffic congestion is a constant problem, causing delays of at least half an hour for commuters.

Another resident stressed the essential improvements required for the road, including proper footpaths, adequate street lighting, appropriate leveling, removal of encroachments, installation of road dividers, and the elimination of unauthorized shops, banners, posters, and food carts. A wider road is also necessary to accommodate the growing traffic flow.

The residents hope that their Rasta Roko event will draw the attention of the authorities and push the PMC to take immediate action. The development of NIBM Undri road is not just a matter of convenience but a vital safety measure to prevent further accidents and ensure the well-being of the community.
