Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking proactive measures to enhance its flood response capabilities by acquiring eight state-of-the-art fibre boats. In preparation for the upcoming monsoon season, PMC aims to supplement its existing fleet of eight rubber boats with these more durable and long-lasting vessels, following recommendations from the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF).

In recent years, the city has witnessed flash floods during the monsoon season, prompting PMC to reassess its disaster management resources. The current rubber boats, procured approximately a decade ago, are now in a dilapidated state. Recognizing the urgent need to address potential flood emergencies, the disaster management section of PMC has urged the acquisition of new boats.

The decision to opt for fibre boats stems from their superior strength and durability compared to rubber boats. PMC intends to acquire eight fibre boats, each estimated to cost around Rs 9 lakh, before the monsoon season commences. By bolstering its fleet with these advanced vessels, PMC aims to better safeguard the flood-affected areas of the city and improve its response capabilities in the face of potential disasters.
