Pune : In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Shirgaon police seized Rs 50 lakh in unaccounted cash from a car traveling from Mumbai to Pune.  The seizure took place at a checkpoint established at the Urse toll booth on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.

The interception occurred during a routine patrol check conducted by the Shirgaon police within the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate. Upon inspecting the vehicle, authorities discovered cash amounting to an estimated Rs 50 lakh.

Police officials have swiftly initiated action in accordance with the Model Code of Conduct, which came into effect following the announcement of the election schedule. This seizure underscores the heightened security measures implemented by the district administration to uphold compliance with the model code of conduct during the electoral process.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Bapu Bangar stated, “The incident is currently under investigation,” indicating that authorities are actively probing the matter to ascertain further details surrounding the cash seizure.
