The Election Commission has introduced a provision allowing citizens above 85 years old, who find it challenging to visit polling stations due to age or illness, to vote from home. In the recent Kasba Assembly by-election, this system was successfully implemented, with 5,500 senior citizens utilizing the opportunity. However, with thousands of eligible senior citizens in Pune Lok Sabha, awareness about this option is crucial.

To apply for voting from home, eligible citizens need to fill out Form 12(d) provided by the Election Commission. This form can be obtained by contacting the Assistant Election Returning Officer corresponding to their Assembly Constituency. While some applications were collected during a prior survey conducted by the Heads of Polling Stations (BLOs), those who haven’t submitted their forms yet must contact the Assistant Election Officer promptly.
The Election Commission encourages senior citizens who can easily reach polling stations to do so. However, for those facing difficulties due to age or illness, the option to vote from home ensures their participation in the electoral process.

According to data from Pune District, there are significant numbers of voters in the age categories of 80 to 89, 90 to 99, and even a few above 100 years old. This highlights the importance of providing accessible voting options for elderly citizens. As the deadline approaches, efforts must be intensified to ensure that all eligible senior citizens are aware of their right to vote from home, thereby fostering inclusivity and democratic participation in Pune Lok Sabha constituency.
