Lonikand Police Station Organises 76 km Rally Promoting De-Addiction and Women’s Safety in Wagholi

Pune: A spirited rally advocating de-addiction and women’s safety took center stage in Wagholi, orchestrated by the Lonikand Police in anticipation of the 76th Indian Independence Day.

Vishwajit Kaingade, Senior Police Inspector at Lonikand Police Station, shed light on the relentless efforts of Pune City Police under the guidance of Commissioner Ritesh Kumar. Over the past one and a half months, the police have been actively spearheading a diverse range of initiatives to address the pressing concerns of drug addiction and women’s safety. In celebration of the 76th Indian Independence Day, a remarkable 76 km relay race was held on August 14, 2023, specifically dedicated to championing the cause of de-addiction and women’s safety. The event drew enthusiastic participation from all ranks of Lonikand Police Station.

The relay race commenced at 6:30 am from Bakori Phata, tracing its route through significant thoroughfares including JSPM College Road, Ivy Estate Road, Kesnand Phata, Domkhel Road, Baaef Road, Wagholi Village, Avhaalwadi, Manjari Khurd, Kolawadi, Kesanand, Wadegaon, Wadebolhai, Ashtapur, Pimpri Sandas, Burkegaon, Dongargaon, Perne Village, Vadhu Khurd, Tulapur, Phulgaon, and Alandi Phata, culminating at the Lonikand Police Station.

Throughout the rally, the procession was greeted with an outpouring of support from hundreds of citizens spanning the various villages along the route. Each stop served as an opportunity for engaging conversations surrounding drug addiction and women’s safety, punctuated by patriotic slogans resonating with the spirit of the occasion. This dynamic initiative kindled an atmosphere of enthusiasm and elation, fostering a heightened sense of community spirit within the villages. Notably, local educators pledged their commitment to further enlighten their students about the perils of drug abuse and the importance of women’s safety. The initiative was met with widespread acclaim, symbolizing a collective step towards a safer and more vigilant society.
