Mahametro Seeks 15 More Locations from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation for Pimpri-Nigdi Metro Route
Pune: Maha Metro Services on Civil Court to Swargate Stretch Likely to Start in September
The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Mahametro) has requested 15 additional strategic locations from the Municipal Corporation to facilitate the extended metro route from Pimpri to Nigdi. This comes after the successful completion of the Dapodi to Pimpri metro route, which has already commenced operations.
Mahametro has demanded permanent ownership rights for most of the requested locations, which include land and footpath spaces, to ensure commercial utilization and increase non-ticket revenue. The state government has instructed the commissioner to transfer these spaces to Mahametro unconditionally.
The requested locations include six plots at the Nigdi Bus Terminal, covering an area of 3,562.293 square meters, as well as spaces in Akurdi, including land and footpath areas. Mahametro requires these spaces for metro lines, stations, entrances, stairs, lifts, and parking lots along the Pimpri-Nigdi route.
Four metro stations are planned on this route, including Chinchwad station, Khandoba Mal Chowk in Akurdi, Tilak Chowk in Nigdi, and Bhakti-Shakti Group in Shilp Chowk. Mahametro needs footpath space on both sides of the service road for station construction.
The Municipal Corporation has already transferred 10 strategic locations to Mahametro on a 30-year lease, but a decision on the additional requests is yet to be taken.
