Mumbai, November 13, 2025: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted searches at two locations—one in Mumbra, Thane, and another in Pune—in connection with the arrest of software engineer Zubair Hangargekar, who is accused of having links with Al-Qaeda and other banned terrorist organisations.

Officials clarified that the searches were not related to the recent Delhi blast that claimed 12 lives. However, as part of standard protocol, investigators are examining whether there could be any Maharashtra connection to the national capital incident.

According to ATS sources, Hangargekar (37), arrested from Pune on October 27, had allegedly attended a meeting at a teacher’s house in Mumbra. The teacher has not been named as an accused or a witness in the case.

Searches were also conducted at a residence in Pune’s Kondhwa area, where ATS recovered electronic devices containing deleted PDF files titled “Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and All Its Manifestations.” They also found Urdu translations of Osama bin Laden’s speeches and a magazine titled “Inspire” with instructions for assembling explosives.

Investigators discovered Hangargekar’s old phone containing five international numbers — from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman. However, the call records showed no outgoing or incoming calls to these contacts, the ATS confirmed.
