Pune, March 12, 2025 : On the death anniversary of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, former IG Nashik Dr B G Shekhar Patil (IPS) announced a movie on Santaji Ghorpade, a Maratha general who held the esteemed position of the 7th Senapati within the Maratha Empire during the reign of Chhatrapati Rajaram. He is widely regarded as one of the foremost experts in Guerrilla warfare. The film will be directed by national award winning Cinematographer and Director Amol Gole.

Speaking on the occasion Dr B G Shekhar Patil said, “Since my teenage, I always kept on thinking about the condition of the Maratha empire after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was brutally killed by Aurangzeb. Later in my life, I made a sincere attempt to find the answers by studying over 175 books, a research of about 5 years and a travel of about 8000 kilometers to visit the historic sites to gather information. The extraordinary bravery of Santaji Ghorpade had a big impact on my mind and I transformed all this effort into a book dedicated to Ghorpade titled as ‘Shur Sarsenapati Santaji’, the second edition of the book was released at the hands of none other than the Maharashtra CM Devendra Phadnavis.”

“Now, today on the occasion of death anniversary Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, I am glad to announce that a movie titled ‘Randhurandhar Santaji’ based on my book shall be made in an attempt to pay tribute to the General who in a way took the revenge of the Chhatrapati Shambhuraje’s assassination and kept the resistance to Mughals alive”, he added.

Amol Gole who is going to direct the movie said, “It’s an absolute privilege to make a historic film on a well researched book. My experience with historic movies like Mangal Pandey, The Forgotten Hero Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Pavankhind will surely help me to handle this task better. One of the most important aspects of any historic film is the recreation of the environment or that particular era. So, elements like sets, costumes and make-up play a significant role in creating impactful historic films and I will be very meticulous about these elements. We intend to start shooting in August onwards and are looking at releasing the film early next year.”
