The list of holidays includes major festivals, cultural celebrations, and nationally important days, ensuring that employees across government departments receive uniform holidays throughout the year. These holidays will apply to all government offices in Maharashtra, including state government undertakings, municipal corporations, municipal councils, nagar panchayats, district councils (zilla parishads), panchayat samitis, and gram panchayats.
Bhaubeej, a significant festival celebrated as part of the Diwali festivities and symbolising the bond between brothers and sisters, has been granted an additional holiday considering its cultural importance and widespread observance across the state. This move is expected to be welcomed by state employees and citizens who traditionally partake in Bhaubeej rituals and family gatherings.
Apart from the public holidays, the government has also announced April 1, 2026 (Wednesday) as a holiday exclusively for banks, reserved for the annual financial closing and audit activities. This bank-specific holiday ensures smooth completion of year-end accounting procedures without customer-facing interruptions.
