Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has announced that starting April 1, motorists must pay tolls via FASTag or e-Tag, or face double charges for using cash, credit/debit cards, or other non-digital payment methods.

According to a directive issued on Friday, toll collection centers on roads developed under public-private partnerships (PPP) will enforce this rule to streamline digital transactions and reduce congestion at toll booths.

Currently, FASTag-based toll payments are mandatory only on national highways, while state highway tolls can still be paid using various offline methods. However, with the new directive, the state government aims to implement a uniform digital toll collection system across Maharashtra.
