Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra stated on Friday that the state government is keeping a close eye on the COVID-19 resurgence and that officials have been given orders to stop the virus’s spread.

Pawar spent Friday attending several meetings in Pune. In addition, he gave a speech at the Sassoon General Hospital’s new building’s opening and updated the media on the growing number of COVID-19 cases.

According to Pawar, health department representatives updated him on the situation during a cabinet meeting held on Thursday. Every day, the government receives case updates. On a doctor’s recommendation, patients can receive treatment at home. The strain is not as strong as it was when the pandemic was at its worst. He does, however, urge everyone to exercise greater caution.

Pawar emphasized the importance of wearing masks when out in public and stated that all civil surgeons and health offices have been instructed to take preventative measures to stop the spread.

Many facilities at Sassoon and BJ Medical College were opened by Pawar and DMER minister Hasan Mushrif. These included an 11-story building that is operational, a transgender ward, remodelled grounds, a CT scan and MRI centre, a forensic department, a neurosurgery department, an internal medicine ward, and an interventional radiology section. The eleven-story structure was put into service in 2020 to accommodate the increased workload caused by COVID-19 patients.

Mushrif opened the transgender ward on the eighth floor of the building in August of last year. It is the second ward of its kind in Maharashtra, the first being the government-run Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital in Mumbai. Pending inauguration, no patient was admitted to the ward until Friday.

Pawar added that in order to provide low-income patients with high-quality care, they are attempting to upgrade Sassoon and acquire additional modern equipment. There will be additional hospitals and facilities added to Pimpri Chinchwad.
