Out of these, five deaths have been officially confirmed as caused by heatstroke, while 12 others are still under investigation.

Among the suspected deaths, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Akola, Latur, and Jalgaon reported two cases each, while Yavatmal, Solapur, Nagpur, and Gadchiroli recorded one suspected death each. Confirmed heatstroke deaths were reported from Akola, Latur, Gadchiroli, and Jalgaon.

Health officials have advised citizens to remain cautious during extreme weather conditions. Dr Sandeep Sangale, Joint Director of Health Services, Maharashtra, said people suffering from heatstroke should immediately be moved to a cool and airy place. He recommended reducing body temperature with water and fans, while warning against the use of ice packs or immersing infants in cold water, as it may cause hypothermia.

Doctors explained that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to dehydration, dizziness, fatigue, headaches, and in severe cases, life-threatening heatstroke. Senior citizens, children, and outdoor workers are considered the most vulnerable.

Medical experts also noted that recent rainfall and falling temperatures have brought some relief from heat-related illnesses. However, sudden weather changes have now triggered a rise in seasonal infections.

Health experts have urged citizens to take proper precautions during the changing weather conditions and remain alert to both heat-related illnesses and seasonal infections.
