Maharashtra: State Road Transport Corporation Cancels Seasonal Fare Hike, Passengers To Get Relief This Diwali
In a significant move, the Maharashtra State Road Transport (ST) Corporation has cancelled its annual 10% seasonal fare hike for Diwali, providing relief to passengers across the state. The decision reverses the previously announced fare increase, which was set to take effect from October 25 to November 24.
Every year, the ST Corporation increases seasonal fares by 10% during Diwali and summer vacations to capitalize on increased passenger traffic. However, considering the financial burden on common passengers, the corporation has decided to scrap the fare hike this year.
The cancelled fare hike applies to Vithai, Shivshahi, and Nimaram buses, although Shivneri buses on the Mumbai-Pune route were exempt from the hike. The decision means passengers will save approximately Rs 6 crore daily, with the corporation’s monthly revenue expected to remain at Rs 850 crore instead of the projected Rs 950-1000 crore.
The cancellation of the fare hike will result in a reduced revenue stream for the corporation, which currently earns around Rs 23-24 crore in passenger revenue daily. Despite this, the decision is seen as a welcome relief for passengers who rely on ST services during the festive season.
With the fare hike cancelled, passengers can continue to plan their Diwali travel without worrying about increased costs. The ST Corporation will operate additional buses to cater to the seasonal rush, ensuring convenient travel for those visiting villages and tourist destinations.
This move is a significant gesture by the ST Corporation, prioritizing passenger convenience over revenue generation. Passengers can now enjoy hassle-free travel during Diwali without the added financial burden.
