The Maharashtra State Government gave permission to the Maharashtra State Examination Council to hold the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) using pen-and-paper (offline mode) in March. However, the exam got postponed because of the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha election. The council hasn’t yet revealed any details about rescheduling the exam, causing concern among candidates. If there’s a further delay, the upcoming assembly election in October might disrupt the exam schedule.

The candidates have reached out to the council to urge them to release the exam schedule and conduct the test as soon as possible. The state government has decided against holding an online exam due to past issues like the TET scam. Nandkumar Bedse, the Director of the exam council, mentioned that they initially planned for an online exam but faced technical challenges. They have obtained permission from the state government to proceed with an offline exam. The delay in starting the tender process due to the code of conduct will be resolved soon, and the exam dates will be announced in due course.

The council had decided to switch to online exams to tackle malpractices. Nandesh Chavan, who aims to become a teacher, mentioned the long wait of 18 months for the exam without any tentative dates. With the upcoming assembly elections, it would be best to complete the exams as soon as possible.

According to reports, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis had initiated a high-level probe into the TET scam in December 2022. He highlighted the alleged involvement of several high ranking officials from Mantralaya during the Maha Vikas Aghadi government’s tenure.
