Mumbai | April 30, 2025: In a major infrastructure initiative, Maharashtra will soon see a major boost in its expressway network with a new high-speed corridor connecting the upcoming Vadhavan Port in Palghar to the Nagpur–Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg. This strategic link is aimed at significantly reducing travel time and improving regional connectivity across western and central Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has approved an 85.38 km expressway between Charoti and Igatpuri, forming part of a larger 118 km stretch from Vadhavan to Igatpuri. Once completed, the expressway will slash travel time between these two points to just one hour, enhancing mobility for commuters and boosting freight efficiency.

To kickstart the project, MSRDC has appointed Sovil Consultancy Firm to prepare the detailed project report (DPR), with groundwork set to begin soon. The corridor will serve as a vital connector between the western coastline and Maharashtra’s interior, easing the movement of goods and passengers alike.

The new expressway also supports the development of Vadhavan Port, a mega infrastructure project backed by the central government. Set to become India’s largest port, Vadhavan boasts natural deep-water depth exceeding 20 meters, making it ideal for large cargo vessels. The project involves reclaiming 1,448 hectares of sea to build state-of-the-art container handling facilities.

Given the economic and strategic value of the corridor, MSRDC is expediting approvals to enable construction to begin swiftly. Once operational, the route is expected to transform Maharashtra’s transport and logistics network, opening new growth avenues for trade and infrastructure.
